Project Description
English Landscapes was delighted to win the external works package at Lister Park (Phase C). In May 1997 due to its popularity and historical importance, Bradford MBC was awarded a grant of £3.2 million by the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore, protect and enhance the heritage of this 22.5 hectare Victorian Park.
The works undertaken included:
Restoration of the botanical gardens Refurbishment of the Samuel Cunliffe Lister and Sir Titus Salt statues Restoration of a Norman Arch Renovation and restoration of a set of artificial streams, waterfalls and weirs Construction of three raised circular seating areas and three formal rockeries with associated specialist planting Reconstruction of the formal gardens with new kerbways and rose beds, the re-surfacing of pathways and the installation of formal lighting and street furniture Moving a 10 metre fossilised tree and re-setting with a geological clock with fossils around its perimeter Extensive reconstruction of tarmac footpaths and roadways site wide. Drainage, earthworks, fencing, street lighting, electrical and CCTV installation Establishment of a visitors' car park Seeding, turfing and the supply and planting of many thousands of trees and herbaceous plants
A one year maintenance period followed practical completion.
