Project Description
BALI National Award Winner 2002 - Grounds Maintenance of Public Grounds
English Landscapes Maintenance has been awarded three contracts by Portsmouth City Council. The first awarded in 2001 was for the South of the City, including the seafront, followed by the North and the East in 2002. All three contracts have recently been extended to 15 years.
The contract comprises:
Stripping, planting and maintenance of floral bedding schemes, hanging baskets, lamppost troughs and hedges Maintenance of heather beds, alpines, herbaceous borders, rose borders and a sunken garden complete with pond Maintenance of high amenity grass and sports areas - fertilising, selective weed control, scarifying and end of season reinstatement Sweeping and weed control of selected hard areas and litter picking Maintenance of internal plants - dead-heading, leaf shining, feeding and watering Animal husbandry
Innovative initiatives on this contract include using environmentally-friendly electric buggies, introducing a green waste recycling programme and, in time, setting up an apprentice training scheme for young people based on the 'old-fashioned' parks apprenticeship scheme.
