East Staffordshire Borough Council - £1.2 million p.a. - 2006 - 2016

The Landscape Group in partnership with East Staffordshire Borough Council Parks Department, Trent and Dove Housing Association and Staffordshire Highways has been maintaining the parks, gardens, sports facilities, highways and housing. Commencing in 2006, this contract  originally spanned a 5 year period, but after a successful retender, the Group were awarded a 5 year extension early in 2011.
Maintenance of the contract’s parks and gardens covers a huge range of horticultural services, and its high quality delivery is paramount in meeting the demands of the council’s countryside and gardening events programme.  Services include maintenance of all flower beds including carpet bedding, 600 hanging baskets and herbaceous borders. All grass areas are also maintained by regular mowing, edging, turfing, seeding and re-instatement, in addition to shrub and rose bed maintenance and the application of pesticides and herbicides.
In addressing the council’s first ‘Green Space Objective’ to offer high quality opportunities for recreation and play, The Landscape Group are  responsible

for the conservation of all sports fields and play spaces. In addition to the maintenance of all football and rugby pitches, the team carry out fine turf works to the area’s many bowling greens, grass cricket wickets, tennis courts and pitch & putt greens. All sports field maintenance includes the application of fertiliser and herbicides, regular watering and an end of season renovation scheme. The scope of the contract also includes extensive hedge and tree planting across all parks, and all associated management this requires. The maintenance of a number of naturalised and ornamental ponds is also included in the contract.

Leaf and litter clearance, as well as hard surface weed control also forms part of this contract, ensuring a clean and tidy environment across all parks.
The team also undertake significant hard and soft landscaping works to many of the council’s ‘community parks’, working towards creating open, attractive and accessible public spaces that emphasise the promotion of local groups and the organisation of their own events. One facility that already addresses this ’Green Space Objective’ set by East Staffordshire Borough

Council is the Greenhouse Gardening Centre at Stapenhill  Gardens, an educational resource centre promoting environmentally friendly gardening and environmental enhancement, for which The Landscape Group also maintains  the grounds of.
A key element of this prestigious contract is The Landscape Group's full commitment to East Staffordshire’s Carbon Neutral Scheme. The fleet of 15 vehicles is run using bio diesel which significantly reduces virtually all regulated emissions. Additionally, we fund specific sustainability projects including a tree planting programme, which ensures a carbon neutral footprint to our vehicle fleet for this contract. Other initiatives introduced by the Group include a green waste recycling scheme and the investment in new plant and machinery.
The success of this contract is not only reflected in its 5 year extension, but also by a collection of Gold Heart of England in Bloom awards (‘08, ‘09, ‘10 '12), Green Flag Awards (‘07-’11) and a BALI Principle Award in 2008 for the Grounds Maintenance of Public Grounds at Stapenhill Gardens.
